Ajou University
Welcome to VIC lab. Our lab has developed a series of automated vehicles (AV) since it was founded in 2004. Furthermore, we have experienced many national R&D projects, industry-funded projects, and industry-academia partnerships with automotive OEM, Tier-1 suppliers, and mobility technology companies. For example, our lab was an IVSS research lab funded by Hyundai motors (HMC) between 2008 and 2019, and has continued a series of HMC-funded projects with focus of integrated safety of ADAS and AV. Also we have two scholarship programs for graduate students with LG Electronics and HL Klemove.
Recently we focus on developing perception and decision-making algorithms for autonomous driving systems. By integrating model-based engineering and AI-based technologies—including deep learning, machine learning, and multi-sensor fusion—we aim to realize autonomous vehicles that are safe, intelligent, and context-aware. Our research spans the entire AI development pipeline, with particular emphasis on the following :
Dataset generation : scenario-based and simulation-based data generation to enable reproducible and diverse testing environments
Decision and planning: hybrid algorithms that integrate model-based reasoning with deep learning approaches for accurate collision prediction and avoidance
Accelerated evaluation: parameter space modeling based on data-driven approaches to generate safety-critical driving scenarios
Embedded system: acquisition of real-world driving data using embedded platforms and real-time algorithm validation through on-road experimentation
We are also actively working on verification and validation of safety-critical AI systems, ensuring compliance with international safety standards such as ISO 21448 (SOTIF) and ISO/PAS 8800.
